9.10.12 (one-year anniversary)

There are so many ways that we measure a year, the most obvious being New Years, the most boring being a fiscal year, and then there are the celebrations, birthdays and anniversaries.

Yesterday my husband and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary. And to finish off our first year as a married couple, on Sunday we ran (and finished!) a half marathon together. I use the word together loosely. My husband ran each mile a full minute and 20 seconds faster than I ran, but we were together in spirit (and at the end of course)…

So it was a great way to end our first year of marriage.  I can’t believe it has already been a year since we were married…

And I also can’t believe it has been a year since we last tried this amazing cake…

P.S. while the whole freezing your wedding cake topper for a year tradition may sound nutty, the cake was incredibly delicious one frozen year later and the tradition is such a fun little project to tackle.

We also spent some time exchanging gifts before dinner at new-to-us Trenchermen in Bucktown. After opening our cards, we realized we both got each other cards that said ‘Soul matey’ with pictures of ships — do we belong together or what?!?

That’s all I have for now, but if you happen to be celebrating a birthday, anniversary or another year of something today, I hope you enjoy it!

  2. I love that you guys got each other the same type card. That is so cute and random! Congrats on finishing that half marathon!
