Dark and Restful Bedrooms

I know you have probably heard me say once or twice how much I like white and lightly colored walls so that furniture, fixtures and decor is better highlighted.  But recently, I have been having strong urges to paint our bedroom a dark, dark hue.  However, given that we will likely be moving in the next 6 months, I am going to hang on to this urge until moving into our new place.  And in the meantime, I decided that looking at images of dark bedrooms would instead suffice.  There is just something restful and soothing about a dark bedroom.  The lighting is more dramatic, the bedroom stays darker during the night to aid in sleeping, it brings about restful and calming feelings and it just feels more cozy (dark walls create the illusion of a smaller space!).

Pure black would be a little bit harsh, but I am loving these dark bedrooms with hints of blue or purple provide just the perfect touch of softness.  Here are a few that I have been admiring…

For ultimate hibernation, a few necessities also include plush rugs, layers of pillows and blankets, and long, thick curtains.  Oh, and of course some good beside table lamps.  What do you think? Do you like dark bedrooms or are they too dramatic and moody for your taste?!?

  1. I will have a dark navy bedroom in my future dream home. I’ve always loved them, especially with white moldings and pretty mahogany furniture.
